Electromagnetic Listening – Precursor to a Composition
I started work on a song that uses only the induction recordings I’ve been taking lately, but that’s not complete yet. So, in the meantime, here are a few more induction recordings I’ve taken with my Elektrosluch 3 that I’ve been using in the song.

A Machine in Locomotion
The machine springs to life, rushing to meet demand. A commander yells to his compatriots as they man their stations:
Increase oxygen intake!
(Expanding air exchange chambers)
Increase energy delivery rate!
(Accelerating hydraulic pump rate)
Watch that temperature gauge, Corporal!
(Releasing coolant through external vents)
Easy, we’re burning a lot of fuel here. We’re going to need to keep this going.
(Tapping into latent energy reserves)
Divert spent fuel to air exchange chambers for expulsion!

Induction Synth – Lazy Synth
After combining an induction recording of a TV and a microwave, I came up with a sound that I thought would work nicely for a synthesizer. Using Independence, I ended up with the following:

You can download the Independence layer here. To use it, simply open up Independence, right-click a layer, and select, “Load.”
I plan on making a few other induction synths, and then I’ll release them as a full project.

Induction Synth – Hexbug
The other day, I took several induction recordings that produced hums and drones, with the intention of making some synthesizers using them. Using Independence, I made a synthesizer using my hexbug recording. Here’s a sample of how it sounds:

Bringing Form to the Noise
I started playing around with the induction recordings I did yesterday, trying to make a synth sound using the hums and drones I’d gathered. My favourite sampler, shortcircuit, doesn’t seem to work well with many modern DAWs, so I’m exploring other options. In the meantime, I’ve come up with a general sound that I like. It’s a simple combination of my TV and microwave recordings with some low-pass filtering to make the sounds a little more pleasing to the ear.

Electromagnetic Listening – Hums and Drones
After my last bit of electromagnetic listening, I noticed that many of the recordings I was getting had quite a bit of rhythmic content. As such, I decided to start capturing some recordings that had less rhythmic content and more of a drone to them. I figure if I’ve already got a rhythm section, all I need is some waveforms that I can use for some synthesizers, and I could start orchestrating these.

A Site Logo
I’ve never been that much of a visual designer. I dabbled a bit when I was in high school, mostly leaning towards photomanipulation, but it just never really stuck. However, I find myself in need of a few images to adorn this website, and I figure I’d rather sharpen a few of those skills. A site logo is the logical first visual element that I should have.

Electromagnetic Listening – Connected Devices
I recently got an Elektrosluch 3, which LOM, the creator, calls an electromagnetic listening device. Think of it like a microphone for electricity instead of sound. I’ve done a few recordings with induction coils before, which do more or less the same thing, but the Elektrosluch 3 is powered and, as such, has much higher gain. This has allowed me to listen to many more sounds and subtleties than I previously could.

A New Year, A New Watchface
This year, I’ve decided to try and do something creative, big or small, every day. I figured I’d start with something relatively small, so I got to work on making a watchface for my Pebble Classic that better meets my needs.
The Old
For the majority of the time that I’ve had my Pebble (almost three years, I believe – I backed the original on Kickstarter), I’ve been using Glance as a watchface substitute.
